Frequently asked questions

The budget for a learning experience can vary a great deal depending on the scope, timeline, and complexity, to name a few.

A 5 minute bespoke learning experience with full instructional design typically starts at $16,000 but can be as much as $40,000+ for 30 minutes. It depends on what you need.

I can take on new projects with about 2 weeks to a months notice. Urgent work will include additional charges.

As I work alone, I can be booked up in advance, so please give me as much notice as possible so we can lock in the development of your learning content.

A learning experience development timeline varies on the project’s scope and how well we communicate.

Typically, my projects from kick off to implementation take between 2-3 months to complete but can take longer based on communication, scope, and revision cycles.

I am deeply passionate about social justice and excel at creating impactful compliance training that drives genuine cultural change. I partner with forward-thinking organisations across corporate, government, and non-profit sectors that prioritise ethical standards, employee wellbeing, and social responsibility.

  • Project Alignment: While I work with a broad range of industries, I focus my expertise on sectors that align with my professional values of safety, inclusion, and integrity.

  • Pro Bono Work: I am dedicated to using my skills to support the community. I prioritise pro bono opportunities for initiatives focused on Suicide Awareness, Diversity & Equality, and the empowerment of LGBTQ+ and First Nations communities.

If you are looking for compliance training that is as engaging as it is ethical, or if you have a pro bono project in the areas above, I would love to hear from you.

Over the last five years, I’ve received hundreds of emails from aspiring Freelance Learning Designers asking if I can provide them with mentoring or to offer them opportunities to work with me.

So, I launched a YouTube Channel called The Learning Pro Live, where I live stream and help Learning Designers refine their craft by sharing new skills and showcasing new learning technology.

I also created The Learning Pro Community, which is FREE to join and includes Learning Specialists from accross the globe supporting each other, answering questions and sharing new technology and skills.

What are People saying

Working with Cath was such a pleasure and a truly collaborative partnership. Her work is creative, engaging, and fun. She took the time to get to know our organization and mission. Her final courses fit our needs perfectly. Additionally, working at an organization that is new to the e-Learning space, Cath took the extra time to help us understand best practices and different approaches to online learning, from sharing new image libraries to helping us brainstorm course assessment questions.
Alison Leung
E-Learning Coordinator at Year Up
I've been working with Cath as a freelance learning designer for our non-profit organization, Year Up. Cath has been incredible to work with. She is creative, open to feedback and very communicative. Cath created some really great interactions for the online learning modules that she designed for us. Cath has also been a really great coach for our junior in-house designer, which has been a bonus for us in our work together. I'm eager to continue working with Cath as our organization really delves into the learning design space more this year.
Kailey Cartwright
Director, Training Academy at Year Up
Cath has the ability to shape an idea into beautiful elearning content. She has a wealth of elearning and design experience and knowledge, but she is open to new solutions. Cath took the time to build a relationship with us, to understand our business and our subject matter. She was able to walk us through the development process. We particularly valued her ability to work with us as our vision for the project evolved. It's obvious that Cath wants the best outcome for her clients, and it's evident in her honest communication, her dedication, and ability to create engaging and memorable content.
Andy Rigg
Director, Civicsquare
Cath has helped us right from the concept stage of our e-learning programme, through to design, testing and delivery. She's been fantastic to work with. Cath has really listened to our ideas, melded them with her own, and then created a fabulous e-learning product that people are loving. Looking forward to lots more collaboration with Cath!
Ryan Malone

Claire Lavin

Cath is a passionate, professional and highly talented Instructional Designer. She's an innovator, who during her time at Learning Seat would often come to see me to share her ideas and vision. It became clear to me early on that Cath was an amazing creative thinker. If you are looking for someone who is going to make a difference in how you produce your training or messaging then I have no hesitation in recommending Cath to you.
Scott Dean
CEO, Learning Seat
I can only recommend Cath wholeheartedly if you need a website. The fact is I sat around knowing I needed a website for MONTHS before I finally got around to asking Cath and within a matter of days, it was done. The proof, they would say, is definitely in the result.
Lawrence Akers

Catherine brought advanced skills and creative energy to her work, and demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm by attention to detail, consistent innovation and a strong collaborative ethos above and beyond the limits of any position description.

I have worked closely with Cath for the past two years. Cath is a skilled e-learning designer with obvious passion about all things digital. She is professional and courteous in her interactions with colleagues and with clients. Cath is an excellent collaborator who likes to push the boundaries of e-learning technologies and I would recommend her as an asset in the development of online educational/training content.
Ben Webber
Special Projects at Learning Seat
I've worked with Cath for the last two years as part of the Learning Seat Instructional Design team. Cath's ability to seek inspiration for her concepts in all areas of the digital world is astounding; every week she's showing me a new idea that takes constructive innovation to a new level. Cath has an unparalleled thirst for learning, especially in the learning technology field, and is my go-to colleague if I need creative solutions for my tech challenges.
John Slattery
Senior Instructional Designer at Learning Seat
It is no exaggeration to say that Cath is one of the most passionate digital learning professionals that you're ever likely to meet. She consistently pushes the envelope to leverage instructional methodologies and new technologies to create outstanding learning outcomes for both students and organisations alike. While many in the eLearning industry like to think we do this, very few of us extend that practice to extracurricular study, research and experimentation to the degree that Cath does. In my view, Cath's thirst for knowledge and ongoing commitment to her own professional development is testament to the value she offers any organisation lucky enough to engage her services.
Bianca Frost
Senior Instructional Designer at Learning Seat
Cath's knowledge, experience and passion for E-Learning and instructional design is second to none. While working at CFA in the Learning & Volunteerism team, Cath carved an important space for transforming traditional training to innovative solutions designed to reach a much broader and more diverse audience. I would highly recommend Catherine Ellis as a professional leader in instructional design.
Kate Harrap
Executive Director, Learning & Volunteerism at CFA
