In this session, you will learn:
Here's some information from this session.
Learning Pool's Adapt Builder
When you’re not a developer, installing frameworks using node, git, grunt and terminal can seem totally overwhelming. Type what? Where? Do what? How do I launch it? Oh, I give up!
Then when you’ve finally bribed a developer to help you and you’ve got the framework working, what happens when it needs updating, or worse, stops working?
The Adapt framework and builder have been somewhat confusing for many, and that’s not to mention the lack of customization in the builder.
What if there was an option out there that offered the Adapt Builder hosted in the cloud? Well there is, and it’s fantastic.
In this session, you’ll get a crash course in designing engaging learning apps using the Adapt Builder.
You’ll discover what the difference is between the Open Source Adapt Framework, Open Source Adapt Builder, and Learning Pool’s Adapt Builder.
You’ll learn about the basics with an overview of articles, blocks, and components. Next, you’ll find out how customizing the menu and theme can bring your content in Adapt to life.
You’ll have the opportunity to see how the presentation and question components work, and how adding custom extensions adds more functionality.
Finally, you’ll find out more about publishing modules with Google Analytics, SCORM, and xAPI.

Just want to assure everyone I am not a plant from learning pool 🙂 . I work at large global Corp and currently have about 75 or so active users on the learning pool platform. Will second Cath’s recommendation of using the Learning pool version of the tool. I’m Happy to answer questions as well.
Thanks Eric, your assistance in the session was very helpful.

Can you compare Adpat/Learning Pool with Articulate Rise – the good the bad etc
Hi Karl, I love Rise too, but it is very limited and all modules look the same…with Adapt, you have the opportunity to completely make each module different.

If anyone wants to learn how to install their own Adapt instance (locally or on AWS), I can help. 🙂
Thanks for your offer Jaunita.

Is there a revision history for undoing or going back to previous versions / edits?
There is not a history, however I get around this by making copies of versions. One nice thing about Adapt is that you are not limited to how many modules you make.

How does the xapi capability with adapt work?
It works really well. You enable the extension and add your endpoint, secret key etc into the module, upload the module into your LMS (e.g. Curatr) and you will see statements in your LRS.

Also, I can help answer questions about xAPI and Adapt. There’s a plug-in that was created to allow Adapt to publish xAPI files.
Hi Jaunita, thanks for your offer with this.
In Learning Pool’s Adapt Builder there is native functionality which allows you to enable xAPI, so a plugin isn’t required.

Is Learning Pool necessary to use the Adapt Builder?
No it’s not required. You can download it from here. However, I personally found it too complicated and I wanted the additional functionality, that’s why I got my Adapt Builder through Learning Pool.

Is there a scripting language we can access? If so, which language?
Hi Joe, it’s just a WIZIWIG editor that you need to add content.
Greg Brown | Oct 25, 2019, 8:57:35 AM
Does Adapt have a SCORM player? The framework/menus/etc., look great, but to get extra functionality I’d like to be able to build stuff elsewhere. Also, can Adapt “courses” be exported as SCORM/xAPI files?
Hi Greg, yes SCORM is included. It is an extension called SPOOR. You can also add xAPI and Google Analytics to your modules.
Sharon Lo | Oct 25, 2019, 9:00:23 AM
Does it always take that long to preview even with no assets added?
Hi Sharon, It takes more time when you have changed something significant in the module, minor changes are faster. I hope that helps.
Nick Striegel | Oct 25, 2019, 9:01:56 AM
What content export options are available?
Hi Nick, You can export to HTML, SCORM and xAPI.
Nick Striegel | Oct 25, 2019, 9:04:14 AM
Is there a review / commenting feature for sharing and getting feedback from SMEs?
Hi Nick, yes a tool similar to the review function in Storyline 360 is available in the system.
Julius Sudds | Oct 25, 2019, 8:36:19 AM
Not a question but I’m excited to learn more about Adapt!
Hi Julius, no worries. I love Adapt too!
Steven Watkins | Oct 25, 2019, 8:36:28 AM
Have you recently had technical issues with the trickle button not appearing on headers or other components?
Hi Steven, no I haven’t had any technical issues. If you do try the demo and come accross any issues, you can always contact Learning Pool’s support to assist you.
Jaunita George | Oct 25, 2019, 8:38:06 AM
Did you use the framework or authoring tool?
Hi Juanita, this is the authoring tool.
Jaunita George | Oct 25, 2019, 8:38:47 AM
What do you do when MongoDB updates? I’ve had to reinstall when that happens?
Hi Juanita, there are no updates as Learning Pool host this in the cloud. That’s what I love most about using their Adapt tool.
Joseph Ganci | Oct 25, 2019, 8:40:10 AM
Can you do everything with LearningPool that you can directly in ADAPT?
Hi Joe, I would say more as they have added custom functionality, such as gamification, menu’s and themes.
Greg Brown | Oct 25, 2019, 8:42:02 AM
Dumb question (sorry): is LearningPool an LMS? LRS? Is Adapt like an open-source Storyline, or is it like some kind of authoring/LMS hybrid?
Hi Greg, not a dumb question at all. Adapt is an Authoring Tool.
Jaunita George | Oct 25, 2019, 8:47:23 AM
Does learning pool just sell the themes to upload into another Adapt instance?
Hi Jaunita, unfortunately their themes can only be used with their Adapt instance. Also, you can’t download a Adapt course from their Authoring Tool and upload it into another Adapt instance.
Joseph Ganci | Oct 25, 2019, 8:50:34 AM
Do you ever find bugs too frustrating when using ADAPT?
Hi Joe, no it’s been pretty good so far. I tend to reach out to support when I need help, they are pretty good. There have been a few bugs, but as soon as they have been addressed they get fixed pretty quickly.
Joseph Ganci | Oct 25, 2019, 8:53:27 AM
What media is possible in ADAPT? SVG? All image and video formats?
Also, can you set up iFrames?
Hi Joe, yes you can use SVG and most image and video formats. They also have a cool extension to use font awesome. Yes, you can add iFrames…which is very useful. I’ve added google maps etc with no issues.
Joseph Ganci | Oct 25, 2019, 8:55:27 AM
Do you publish to HTML5? Is it always responsive?
Hi Joe, absolutely it is HTML5 and is always responsive.
Joseph Ganci | Oct 25, 2019, 9:18:02 AM
Are drag and drop exercises possible? If so, how customizable (uhm. customisable) are they?
Hi Joe, no they don’t have any drag and drops, I think it would compromise their Accessibility. Does that make sense?

If anyone wants to pick my brain on Adapt Framework, shoot me an email stevenw@getyardstick.com
We’ve been using the framework for 3+ years, not the Adapt Authoring Tool/Learningpool.
Thanks Steven.
