When Officeworks approached me, they were struggling with low engagement across their existing Rise e-learning modules. For the “Same Day Print” suite, they needed a complete departure from the status quo. I introduced the concept of “Learning Moments”—targeted, 15-minute high-impact modules designed for the busy retail environment. By ditching dated imagery and generic templates, I delivered a high-end, bespoke learning experience that felt as modern as the Officeworks brand itself.

Objectives and Goals

  • Drive Service Excellence: Ensure team members could confidently execute the “Same Day Print” workflow through clear, visual guidance.

My Role and Responsibilities

I acted as the Lead Learning Experience Designer & Creative Developer, overseeing the transition from legacy Rise modules to a custom-built solution.

  • Product Strategy: Proposed and developed the “Learning Moments” framework to solve the engagement gap.

  • Visual Design: Created a custom Evolve theme from scratch to provide a unique, premium interface.

  • Character Development: Designed a diverse suite of custom characters in Vyond to represent the actual Officeworks workforce.

  • Multimedia Production: Wrote, produced, and animated a series of high-end videos to anchor each module.

  • Technical Development: Built the final responsive suite using Evolve, ensuring a seamless experience on all devices.

Process and Approach

My approach focused on Visual Storytelling and Efficiency:

  1. Framework Shift: I began by auditing the existing content and condensing it into the 15-minute “Learning Moment” structure.

  2. Bespoke Theme Development: Rather than using a standard template, I built a custom Evolve theme tailored to the Officeworks aesthetic, providing a sleek, “high-end” feel they had previously lacked.

  3. Humanising the Brand: I used Vyond to create a suite of characters that felt authentic to the team. These characters appeared in animated videos that introduced key concepts, making the training feel like a conversation rather than a lecture.

  4. Interactive Deployment: I ensured every “Learning Moment” was packed with interactive touchpoints, keeping the learner active throughout the short duration.

Key Features or Solutions

  • The “Learning Moment” Format: A strategic 15-minute cap on module length, perfectly suited for the retail environment.

  • Bespoke Evolve Theme: A unique visual shell that differentiated this suite from all other internal training.

  • Representational Animation: Custom-designed Vyond characters that allowed staff to see themselves in the training.

  • Video-Centric Learning: High-quality animated videos that simplified complex printing processes into easy-to-follow steps.

Challenges and How They Were Overcome

  • Challenge: Overcoming “training fatigue” caused by previous long-form modules.

  • Solution: The “Learning Moments” name and format immediately signaled to staff that this was different. By keeping the content to a strict 15-minute limit, we respected their time and increased completion rates.

  • Challenge: Dealing with dated, uninspiring existing imagery.

  • Solution: I bypassed the old assets entirely. By creating a custom theme and a new suite of Vyond animations, I gave the project a fresh start and a “premium” look that the client immediately loved.

Results and Impact

The “Same Day Print” suite completely changed the internal perception of e-learning at Officeworks.

  • High-End Recognition: The client was thrilled with the bespoke look, noting it felt significantly more professional than their previous Rise-based content.

  • Staff Adoration: Feedback from the workforce was overwhelmingly positive; staff loved the shorter format and the relatable, modern animations.

  • Cultural Shift: The success of the “Learning Moments” concept provided a new blueprint for how Officeworks approaches quick-hit retail training.
